Hi Gary. Welcome! Dairy and coffee are fine if they don't hold you back.

Best advice I can offer right now. Start. If you have to throw away all of the junk/bad food in your house then do it. Head to the store and grab basic foods if you have to: meats and veggies. You can take your time learning new and different recipes.

        Books? Of course.

        Read the Primal Blueprint...
        >> Current Stats: 90% Primal / 143 lbs / ~25% BF
        >> Goal (by 1 Jan 2014): 90% Primal / 135-ish pounds / 20-22% BF

Weight does NOT equal health -- ditch the scale, don't be a slave to it!

Best advice I have: Just do it. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and eggs, and make it all taste good. Life is meant to be enjoyed, and this way of eating isn't about starving yourself. And eat your fats!!!

              Hello Gary,

Welcome to the primal lifestyle. My name is Gary, too. I am 57, overweight, and it looks like we both started in about the same situation. I just started 2 1/2 weeks ago. It can be rather overwhelming at first since there is a lot to learn and so much that can be done. I started by binging on carbs for a couple of days, sort of a farewell to the favorites, and took note of how I felt. Crappy was the word. I then made the decision to eliminate all the wheat stuff, like bread, pasta, and most desserts. Then I played around with salad stuff, came up with a base salad that can be added to as I experiment with new foods to add. If you enjoy cooking, grab some coconut oil, grass-fed meats (they actually do taste better!), some eggs, almond flour and coconut flour and start trying recipes from the internet. That is where I am, and I have lost nearly 10 pounds so far and I don't feel crappy after I eat anymore. Keep reading the success stories, read the free stuff from Mark, and keep in contact with folks who will encourage you. Like on this website. Keep after it, and don't bash yourself when you eat non-primal. You can slide into it as fast or as slow as you want. It is a lifestyle change, and it doesn't have to be all at once. Just start, and incorporate more in your life when you get comfortable with what you have already started. You won't regret it!
