          • Hi! my name is Dave, and I'm just coming into trying to be Primal. I'm hoping it leads to an end of years of yo-yo dieting, poor overall health and energy levels, and a better frame of mind through improved health and fitness. I'm the classic Gen X'er - I work with computers, am pretty successful at my job, but my health (and appearance :-( ) have suffered substantially, even with my success in other areas of life. I'm looking to find a way to feel better, be healthier, and set a FAR better example for my kids than I had...so that they can not repeat my mistakes. So with that, here's the standard answer form!

Your location: I'm from Monument, CO, but I'm currently working as a computer specialist in Baghdad, Iraq.

            Age (If you want): 33

How Primal are you: Just getting started

Do you consume dairy: Currently some - mostly cream in coffee, some cheese in meals. Not a lot of milk (only the "juice-box" milk in the mess hall!) but I normally love drinking milk at home.

Do you drink coffee or tea: YES! Coffee is a staple in the Army...especially in the deployed environment. No one has a good sleep schedule, and sitting in front of computers all day and well into the night, right before bed, is terrible for sleep, too (http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/05/13/s...pad/index.html).

Motivator for switching to Primal: Better health, better fitness. Better mental clarity. Look good, and set a better example for my kids!

Favorite exercise: Squats and Deadlifts! Tried the Crossfit thing for a bit, and I'm still a believer in the basic concepts - but through Crossfit I rediscovered my love of lifting weights from Mark Rippetoe. I know cardio/sprinting/etc is good, but I love throwing around the iron.

            Favorite Primal food: Steak!

Best part about being Primal: I'm most looking forward to looking good and feeling good without having to spend hours and hours in the gym or run for miles and miles a day. I'll be honest, there's a bit of vanity in me for this...though I know that in 50 years (hopefully) I'll be able to look back and point to the Primal switch as a new lease on life.

Worst part about being Primal: I'm deployed, so trying to do this through a KBR mess-hall will be a challenge. When I go on R&R and/or complete my tour and go back to CO, I know it will be hard to get my ex-wife and kids to a) not look at me funny, b) not think it's "just another fad diet David's trying out" or c) go along with me on it. I'm hoping that by the time I get stateside again, the results will speak for themselves and that the results will actually improve the support I receive!

Thanks for reading - have a great day!

Do you drink coffee or tea: coffee tow cups a day...for the taste, not the caffine

Motivator for switching to Primal: Health

Favorite exercise: walking, heavy sand bags

              Favorite Primal food: MEAT....pulled pork

              • Hi everyone. I ran across the site a few days back, by chance, and started reading... ended up reading a fair bit! I guess I found this whole PB thing (in my case, mostly on the diet front) intriguing. I thought I'd join and see what happens here as well.

                A bit about me:

Your location: Spain at the moment. That's as specific as I'll be, sorry.

                Age (If you want): 31

How Primal are you: Not a lot, but since I started reading I've been quite aware of the whole grains/carbs/etc. thing and have been trying to cut down.

Do you consume dairy: Yes, though not a LOT (high cholesterol, probably a family thing, so I stay away from cheese and the like).

Do you drink coffee or tea: Yes, both. Not black tea though (TMI time). On the tea front it's mostly several herbal teas (pennyroyal currently, 2-3 cups a day) and mate (drunk with straw and gourd, daily).

Motivator for switching to Primal: I haven't really switched... yet... but it would be curiosity.

Favorite exercise: I keep saying I'll start one of these days. And I will at least try to (after an ongoing move).

                Favorite Primal food: Huge-ass salads.

Best part about being Primal: Can't really say yet.

Worst part about being Primal: I worry that if I ever switch it might impact my chronically high-ish (around 200-220) LDL and also what I linked to, above.

So anyway, hello everyone and I hope to stick around for a while!

PS: Also important! 5' 8", 125 lb give or take a pound/cm (hope the conversion is right). Starting to grow a bit of a paunch .

                • Hey everybody! I am new to the primal way of thinking and am beginning a little experiment with myself after completing p90x, which included an incredibly low fat diet. It did get me in great shape, but I do not feel that that life style is sustainable long term. The primal model makes a lot of sense to me, and I already know that moving away from grains makes me feel much better day to day.

                  Your location: Altanta, GA

                  Age (If you want): 28

                  How Primal are you: Newbie

Do you consume dairy: Yes, full fat milk (raw), butter, yogurt

Do you drink coffee or tea: Both, coffee every day

                  Motivator for switching to Primal:
                  Health

                  Favorite exercise:
                  Upper body weight training

                  Favorite Primal food: Hmmm...Avocado

Best part about being Primal: Not sure yet

Worst part about being Primal: Husband is not, so meal planning can be a pain. Also, hearing the work "Adkins" constantly.

                  • Hi, I haven't actually stared living primally yet - I have bought and read Mark's book and have passed it to my boyfriend who is currently reading it. We're going to start as of next payday so we can buy all the lovely grass fed beef and other yummy things we need - we're currently skint so can't start yet anyway! We also both smoke and are going to quit that when we start too as part of our new healthy lifestyle. We're both quite inactive and drink too much! Wow - this sounds awful. Neither of us are overweight, but we could both do with losing a few pounds and toning up a lot.

                    Your location: Southend-on-Sea, England

                    Age (If you want): 28

How Primal are you: Currently, 0% (I had a danish pastry at work yesterday!)

                    Do you consume dairy: yep

Do you drink coffee or tea: both

Motivator for switching to Primal: Health. I'm not overweight (UK size 10, which I think is a US size 6), but am 'skinny fat', I want to have more energy, and be more fit. I'm interested to see how differently I'll feel.

Favorite exercise: I haven't started yet

Favorite Primal food: As I haven't started yet (I'm waiting for my boyfriend to finish the book), I've only had a few bits and bobs so far - I made a nice lasagne with aubergine slices instead of pasta and cottage cheese instead of a white sauce which was nice.

Best part about being Primal: Don't know yet - but i'm hoping for more energy (particularly at work around 3pm when I could easily fall asleep at my desk!) I also occasionally suffer from IBS and am hoping this will go away too!

Worst part about being Primal: Don't know yet - but I LOVE bread, so that's going to be tough. I'm also going to give up smoking which I know isn't healthy by anyone's standards, but I'm going to use my new lifestyle as a good motivation to quit.

                    • Very new

                      Your location: NE PA

                      Age (If you want): 27

How Primal are you: Not very... yet!

Do you consume dairy: I enjoy cheese and butter, but every other form of dairy gives me the heebie-jeebies. Even before discovering PB dairy grossed me out.

Do you drink coffee or tea: Yep, about 10 oz. black coffee per day, and unlimited unsweetened herbal "teas."

Motivator for switching to Primal: I have always been slightly "overweight" but my post-pregnancy body is way flabbier even though the numbers on the scale are the same as they were pre-pregnancy. I have lost the baby weight by ditching most junk and nursing on demand, but now I want to tone up and get fit so I can keep up with my toddler. Low-fat, high-carb diets (CW) make me feel like crap. I figure there has to be something better out there.

                      Favorite exercise: Hiking

                      Favorite Primal food: BEEF!!!

Best part about being Primal: Not dealing with that "super-stuffed can't even get up to do the dishes" feeling after meals.

Worst part about being Primal: Pizza cravings (I know, it's cliche!)

I know that there are people reading this forum that are fully primal, partially primal, and are considering it. I thought that I'd put some questions together to cover these things just to get an idea of who's out there.
