Have you tried googling "paleo montreal"

The group was named "paleo" as it seemed more common at the time... Personally, I follow a PāNu/primal approach. Hope to meet you and other area groks/grokettes soon!

      • Newbee

Hello, newbee and not quite starting Primal yet I just finished chapter 3 of the book and love everything about it so far, the health benefits, etc etc all great. Today is my first step towards going primal and I'm doing it by giving up bread (sliced, buns, rolls, wrap, pitas etc) I figure I'm setting myself up more for success by giving up different items gradually than going cold turkey. I've been a P90Xer since the middle of 2008 and lost 60 lbs to date and still have about 30 stubborn pounds to go, I feel going primal will get me the rest of the way including improving my health overall

        Your location: Kitchener, Ontario (Canada)

How Primal are you: Not, just starting the journey

        Favorite exercise: P90X Kenpo X

Favorite Primal food: don't have one yet, will probably be eggs

Best part about being Primal: I'll get back to you

Worst part about being Primal: I'm sure will be giving up breads!

        • Your location: Southwestern Connecticut

          Age (If you want): 47

How Primal are you: about 85% - 90%, It is really difficult when you are the only one in your family who follows a lifestyle.

Do you consume dairy: milk, yogurt and cheese

Do you drink coffee or tea: got to have my coffee (well, actually, I just really enjoy a cup in the morning and one in the afternoon)

Motivator for switching to Primal: I've been interested in exercise and nutrition since graduating from college. I've been looking for something that made sense, was easy to follow and worked. I did Paleo (75 - 80%) but is was too strict and there was no exercise guideline. I have worked in the food industry for 15 years and the things you learn...

          Favorite exercise: rock climbing

Favorite Primal food: a BA salad with grilled chicken

Best part about being Primal: since going Primal a month ago, it has been so easy to follow. I feel better and have shed most of my flab (something I have never been able to do following CW).

Worst part about being Primal: no more pasta

          • Your location: New Jersey, USA soon to be Alaska, USA.

            Age (If you want): 35

How Primal are you: At this very moment, not at all. However, today I start again, cold turkey.

Do you consume dairy: Yes, mostly butter.

Do you drink coffee or tea: I drink tea.

Motivator for switching to Primal: I'm morbidly obese and addicted to sugar.

Favorite exercise: I like to lift heavy things.

            Favorite Primal food: Steak.

Best part about being Primal: When I was eating primal before falling off the wagon I had lots of energy, no stomach aches of any kind, no heartburn, my pulse was 70 and my blood pressure was normal. After going off the diet, my pulse is around 100 and my blood pressure is way up again.

Worst part about being Primal: The hardest part for me about eating primal was my friends and family telling me how I was ruining myself by not eating grains. I was lectured so much about grains it started to make me angry. My own demons are what got me to fall off the wagon. An addiction to sugar is worse then my addiction to cigarettes. (quit 3 years ago) A few months ago I had a soda, and that quickly spiraled out of control.

Age (If you want): Uhh ... 29 +(+)

How Primal are you: getting more primal by the day ... I hope

Do you consume dairy: No, quit 6 months ago due to an article that said that I'm drinking animal estrogen hormones designed only to make a calf grow as fast and much as possible in as little time as possible ... can't be good for an adult human. After I quit dairy a lot of health problems dissapeared. (Snotproduction went down, and a lot of musclecramps and pains dissapeared) I do like a piece of cheese once in a while though (months between)

Do you drink coffee or tea: Both, I make my own tea - stinging nettle and camamile and some other leaves I have no idea what are called in English

Motivator for switching to Primal: Feels right somewhere deep down inside

Favorite exercise: Enjoying nature (fishing, sailing, wandering around in forests, hoping I'll get lost)

Favorite Primal food: Everything I've tried sans tomatoes ... but I still eat them

Best part about being Primal: New taste experiences, but I'm new at this so I hope to be able to add a lot more in a few months.

Worst part about being Primal: I look at what other people eat and feel sorry for them and helpless because I can't make them stop filling their bodies with toxins.

                        Age (If you want): 31

How Primal are you: approximately 80-90%.

Do you consume dairy: so much. it's my favorite thing in the entire world. sorry, husband, but cheese is #1 in my heart. i'm never gonna quit it, but i'm working on finding raw varieties. at some point i might try out eating a SMIDGEN less. but i'm not aiming to quit.

Do you drink coffee or tea: a bit of both. coffee used to upset my tummy, but since i've quit grains, it doesn't anymore and i admit i've been on a bit of a half&half latte binge. i kicked again today, though. stupid delicious coffee. i'll probably stick to once a week or so. i drink really a lot of herbal iced tea.

Motivator for switching to Primal: hoping to lose weight, really give myself a chance to see how amazing my body can be if i invest time and energy into it safely. i want to be stronger, also, and this looks like a great way to build strength, as opposed to bulk. the more i heard about this and the further i get into the book, the more it's like my every cell is crying, "yes! Yes! YES!"

Favorite exercise: epic walks with my dog. i started simplefit today, at level 1, and i might be in love with it, too. (so that's cheese #1, my husband&dog #2, simplefit #3, in case you're keeping track.)

Favorite Primal food: berries and bacon for breakfast.

Best part about being Primal: everything. it's seriously changing my life on every single level.

Worst part about being Primal: nothing, really. any lingering nostalgia i feel for baked goods is vastly outweighed by how amazing i feel without them and how utterly awful i've felt the couple of time i've had a cheat day. screw 'em.

                        • Your location: Melbourne, Australia

Age (If you want): Soon to be 37

How Primal are you: 95% for the last month. Threw in the towel a number of times over the last couple of years after reading The Paleo Diet, but started again this year and all is going well. Concentrating on the health benefits, which have been fantastic so far.

Do you consume dairy: Only butter, not much though, not sure if I will give it up.

Do you drink coffee or tea: Regrettably I'm a caffeine addict: I've reduced coffee from 6 cups to 2 or 3 a day, I only have it black no sugar. Not planning on giving it up though, I've tried for three weeks, but can't live without it. Also drink tea, black, green and herbal, a couple of cups a day.

Motivator for switching to Primal: Constant bowel problems, reflux and lacklustre energy levels, high blood pressure.

Favorite exercise: walking and running, for now

Favorite Primal food: I love food in general, but if I had to choose an all time favourite it would have to be roast pork belly; all that gooey fat and crispy crackling, yum!!!

Best part about being Primal: Great improvements in the bowel department and far fewer visits to the WC. Haven't had any hunger horrors and no post-lunch food comas at work. The reflux has gone too and I've lost 5kg in the last three months despite eating fat, fat and more fat!!! According to the electronic scales my body fat levels have dropped from 22% to 17.5%!

Worst part about being Primal: Trying to avoid my mother's cooking; all those dumplings, home made noodles, home made bread, cakes, etc. Eating out is a problem in food obsessed Melbourne.

How Primal are you: I have been fliritng with Paleo for a while and then found Mark's blog (bought the book) and have been 100% primal for about a month now and am sooo happy with my energy levels!! The body is happy too, got leaner and that is alway's a good thing in my opinion. :-))

Do you consume dairy: I am an African and we do not do too well with dairy anyway. I grew up with dairy but have given it up completelly.

Do you drink coffee or tea: Green tea and Roybos tea (South African tea). I used to love the occasional cappuccino but have given it up since I figured out what it was that made me feel so tired and bloated. These day I just smell it.

Motivator for switching to Primal: I wasn't feeling as healthy as I used to. Slowly but surely my energy was going downhill. First I assumed that it was due to the fact that I was no longer a competing athlete (so wrong) but I after getting worst and worst, I went to an alternative doctor who told me I had to address my diet.

                            Favorite exercise: Squats en burpees

                            Favorite Primal food: salmon

Best part about being Primal: I get to enjoy yummy foods without feeling sick or tired.

Worst part about being Primal: I go through veggies and fruit like a crazy person )
