    • Just starting out on this Primal journey...

Should be interesting to see where it takes me!

Your location: Santa Cruz Mountains, CA, USA

      Age (If you want):
      So very close to 33.

How Primal are you: Just starting out, with 5 days worth, started on April Fools Day... doing ok so far! Keeping the good dairy, but knocking out the grains / carbs... shouldn't be too tough, we were mostly gluten-free since November of last year.

Do you consume dairy: Butter, cream and cheese will not be refused.

Do you drink coffee or tea: Mostly Good Earth herbal teas, always black. No coffee.

Motivator for switching to Primal: Weight loss, strength, to be able to keep up with my two (not so little anymore) boys. I'm trying it for a month and then we'll reassess. Started at 230 and already 5 pounds gone so far -- Nice start!

Favourite exercise: Walking, Jogging, Swimming, Biking.

Favourite Primal food: Steak and Tomatoes!

Best part about being Primal: Getting to eat my favorite foods

Worst part about being Primal: Resisting the "goodies." All the Easter candy was tempting me yesterday, but I did great! Not one bite. Will be sad to not have Potato Soup anymore...

      • Hello -

I'm Tracey and I'm new to PB, I've read the book and a lot of the blog/forum posts. I'm still assimilating information and haven't started the plan just yet. I have begun adding in more veggies to my diet. I already eat fairly high protein so that will be easy and I already limit my grain carbs but eat quite a bit of sugar so that'll be the kicker for this plan!

I can't really answer the other questions just yet since I haven't started!

But a bit about me, since Oct. 08 I've lost 140 pounds and I have another 15 or so to go to get to my goal. I'm hoping that cleaning up my eating will not only get those last pounds off but bring me up to 100% in terms of health and well-being. I want to have excellent bloodwork and not just "Good" and I want to feel more energy than I do now, sleep well, have better skin and just overall BE 100% in my life. I'm not doing that right now. I'm probably at 70-80% most of the time so I'm not starting at the bottom of the heap but it will also be a bit harder to detect at the same time. I'm looking forward to this and have brought my partner in this with me - he's the semi-reluctant, "well, we can do this but you have to cook and tell me what to eat" kind of person but that's OK since I do that anyway. He's got chronic pain, allergies, and asthma and 10 extra pounds so I'm hoping that we can lessen the pain, eliminate the allergies, downgrade the asthma and reduce the weight.

        So yeah .. that's me. =)

          Age (If you want): 42

          How Primal are you: ~80%

Do you consume dairy: Steamed milk (for latte), Kefir (for smoothie), aged cheese, cottage cheese, butter, cream

Do you drink coffee or tea: Both. Espresso (latte) for coffee and all kinds of green tea’s

Motivator for switching to Primal: Want to shed fat, but did not want to invest the time and effort I devoted previously with 5-6 meals. Also did not feel Adkins was a healthy long term lifestyle, and then I found the Primal Blueprint. It makes the most sense to me.

Favorite exercise: Free weights and mountain bike. Not at the same time.

Favorite Primal food: Steak and bacon.

Best part about being Primal: Steak. Oh, and feeling better without all the processed carbs and grains and no guilt about bacon.

Worst part about being Primal: No cake. No corn on the cob. Although, the 80/20 rule leaves a little wiggle room for occasional cake and corn on the cob. That is why it makes sense to me.

              Age (If you want): 32

How Primal are you: Pretty much 70% over the past month- I rarely eat bread, grains, noodles etc. due to the fact they doesn't agree with me but every now and then I test the theory and yes, end up feeling quite ill. Other than that, I have eaten a fair bit of Easter chocolate and sweeties. Not to mention the socialising (alcohol) a bit too much recently. Oh and I've just given up my 3 sweetners in tea habit.

Do you consume dairy: Yes, still working on this and finding what works for me. Feta and goat's cheese is ok as is cream and yoghurt. I'm currently trying to adapt to tea without milk (as well as sweetner!).

Do you drink coffee or tea: Tea- yes but switched over to herb teas (chamomile, mint etc) instead of English 'brickie' tea. I don't drink coffee- it gives me heart palpitations and then you need to peel me off the ceiling!

Motivator for switching to Primal: The CW diet wasn't working for me and in fact making me very ill- wheat being a main culprit. I was veggie for years and then vegan too, tried raw vegan but it made me very spacey. Experimented with Primal and found it solved my IBS and also seems to have great mood stabilising properties as a bonus.

Favorite exercise: Not got into the exercise part yet...

Favorite Primal food: Steak cooked in butter with lots of freshly ground black pepper!

Best part about being Primal: Easy, no stress, tasty, filling food.

Worst part about being Primal: For me, the financial cost as I'm freelance and less money for more freedom is the price I pay.

                Age (If you want): 24

How Primal are you: 80-90%. There are candy dishes everywhere at work, so every once and a while I grab a little piece. I still eat some salad dressing that I probably shouldn't too, but I pay attention to the amount.

                Do you consume dairy: Yes

Do you drink coffee or tea: No. Gave up flavored drinks for some reason in high school and just really drink water now.

Motivator for switching to Primal: I'm too competitive. I play in every sport I can here in town and I want to participate in the state games in June. My husband plays football so he bought Mark's book and really like it so I thought I'd give it a try. Why wouldn't I want to try an easy way to fit in to some smaller jeans and have a flatter stomach.

Favorite exercise: Heavy weight lifting: squat, clean, jerk, and things like that.

Favorite Primal food: Chicken. I LOVE chicken. I broil chicken breasts almost every morning with some garlic and herb Mrs. Dash for a snack or breakfast if I can't wait.

Best part about being Primal: I have great energy and strength for training now, but the best part is that I don't feel bloated or sick after meals anymore. I love it.

Worst part about being Primal: People always ask me about "the diet" when they see me eating a giant chunk of chicken at work and it is really hard to talk to them because they always come back with what conventional wisdom has taught them.

                • Hi, I'm Joe and I'd like to think that I am 100% primal, although I'm sure many will disagree with my rationale for saying that. I do lots of things that are primal and lots that fly in the face of them all the time, however, and this is the important bit, I do them when I feel like it. In the instances of food and exercise I let my 'primal' urges guide me and they have yet to steer me wrong! Makes life really simple too!
