In my quest to kick the sugar addiction, my diet has been "evolving" and the PB seems to be the epiphany. As a biologist, this diet makes sense and feels great.

    Your location: near Seattle, WA

    Age (If you want): 34

How Primal are you: maybe 80% - I cheat once a week usually with beer and cake

    Do you consume dairy: yes

Do you drink coffee or tea: coffee in the morning with cream

Motivator for switching to Primal: I really wanted to find a LIFESTYLE change that I could keep. I think I found it.

Favorite exercise: hiking with the kids

Favorite Primal food: I love all of it, really!

Best part about being Primal: having control over my appetite and not being so hungry that I will grab whatever is in front of me.

Worst part about being Primal: Extra expense of organic meats & produce. And of course resisting temptations.

Hi everyone! My name is Denise and before I do anything I need to make a big, fat public apology to my husband. He has been trying to do Atkins for years with absolutely no support from me. I was convinced he was eating his way to a heart attack and refused to cook low-carb food. In fact, I went in the opposite direction and became a vegetarian, and then a vegan. I lasted two months before I realized that I felt terrible! I was extremely fatigued, had frequent headaches, and was losing weight at an alarming rate. (At 5'5" and 110 lbs., I don't have any spare weight to lose.) So I added meat back in, but kept all my whole grains and dairy. And I still feel like crap most of the time, and I'm getting worse.

My goal has always been good health, my husband's goal is to lose about 50 lbs. and bring down his cholesterol. I am finally working with him, instead of against him, and we will be starting the challenge together on the 3rd. (Our PB book is on the way.)

So without further ado: I'm sorry, babe! You were right. I WAS WRONG.

      Your location: South Jersey, USA

Age (If you want): 46, but I feel like I'm 80 most days.

How Primal are you: We're starting August 3rd, with some practice meals now to rev up.

Do you consume dairy: Yes, but will drop everything but milk in my coffee and a litle sprinkle of parm on my salads.

Do you drink coffee or tea: 2 Cups of coffee in the morning, green and herbal tea throughout the day. Trying to figure out how I'm going to sweeten my coffee because right now I use Splenda.

Motivator for switching to Primal: I want vibrant good health! Plus I suspect I have rheumatoid arthritis--will find out for sure next week. Plus I'm too skinny and weak.

      Favorite exercise: Walking/Hiking

Favorite Primal food: Big, huge salads (I already eat one almost every day.)

Best part about being Primal: Ask me again in a month.

Worst part about being Primal: I'm going to miss peanut butter more than anything else.

        Your location: NYC

        Age (If you want): 21

How Primal are you: Nowhere near there yet. I didn't even really think about starting to change my eating habits at all until last winter when I started lifting for the first time ever. That's when I started thinking more about what I ate, trying to avoid non-whole grain starches and whatnot. At that point, still ate lots of oatmeal and drank a lotta milk, I was just trying to get a lot more protein in my diet to go with the lifting weights.

Friend sent me this blog, read lots of it, and this summer unfortunately I was too out of $ to afford a gym membership so I have been focusing more on my eating habits. I went from eating sandwiches at lunch to salads... baby steps. Still, nowhere near fully comitted to this, going out with friends I still just eat whatever (ex: last Friday, 15 dumplings)... but baby steps, right? I'm just gonna slowly change my habits here and there, I don't know if there will ever be a day where I just go all out.

Do you consume dairy: Yeah, still do. This will be hardest to stop. I like milk. ><

Do you drink coffee or tea: Coffee occasionally.

Motivator for switching to Primal: Being out of shape and slightly chubby for forever, and reading the primal blog at the same time as I decided I wanted to start lifting... well I was just open minded and happened to read this at the right time.

Favorite exercise: Deadlifts. Makes you feel like a big man.

Favorite Primal food: Bacon... well I always thought bacon was terrible for you but *apparently* it isn't... and eating bacon for breakfast last week (the good, no nitrates stuff) was fantastic!

Best part about being Primal: Well, I'm not really there yet, so I can't say. Maybe the fact that I'm supposed to eat a ton of meat (coming from a family where we don't eat much meat at all at home, most meals are vegetables and flat bread... Gujarati food. Though I must say, my home diet has probably been the reason why I am not super fat given my level of inactivity. Definitely healthier than the average american diet).

Worst part about being Primal: Pizza... chinese food... mexican food... I mean, I'm still in college, you know? It'll be easier once college is done, but man... sometimes late at night when you're up studying or you're kind of drunk, you just eat what you eat. Plus going out with friends is a very frequent thing in college... like almost all the time. So, yeah, that's difficult.

Oh also... I love beer of all varieties, especially the more heavy beers from various microbreweries which are essentially giant bottles of grains.

Or maybe what's worse is my dad, who is a doctor, telling me I am crazy for eating as much eggs and red meat as I do, saying it's terrible for me. Of course, they come from a culture where people pretty much don't eat meat at all, so... that's definitely going to be a challenge. It's easy when I'm at school, not so easy when I come home for summer/winter breaks.

EDIT: Oh, just to add on, essentially all my life I've been unathletic and averse to most sports. I sucked and I hated them and obviously this led to me getting even more out of shape. It wasn't until senior year of high school, 3 years ago, when I decided I wanted to find something I liked, and then I found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which I have been doing ever since (though on and off, depending on where I am and how much money I have). Regardless, that's what got the ball rolling with my thinking that I needed to get in shape. Slowly but surely changing my habits.

Hi...I'm Cindy. Just found the forum a few weeks ago, although I've been reading Mark's blog for quite a while.

          Your location: Raleigh, NC

          Age (If you want): 55

How Primal are you: Well, low carb, trying to be as primal as possible. I avoid processed foods, but do use dairy.

Do you consume dairy: yes, little bit of cheese, lots of cream

Do you drink coffee or tea: Tea, yes...coffee on occasion

Motivator for switching to Primal: Just trying to eat like my ancestors did and the way I think my body wants me to. Motivation for low carb was weight loss, but turned into more of a health issue once I realized how much better I am.

Favorite exercise: Still working on this! I do walk with my dogs and some light weights. Have arthritis (OA and RA), so things are going slow.

Favorite Primal food: Meat and fish. Definitely a carnivore! I do buy grass fed beef when I can, but right now $$ is tight due to lay-off....hopefully that will change soon.

Best part about being Primal: Meat!

Worst part about being Primal: Not sure yet....will get back to you on this!

                Age (If you want): 21

How Primal are you: About 97%

Do you consume dairy: Very rarely, and if so, it's raw milk or some nice cheese.

Best part about being Primal: Feeling great, being in shape, and knowing I'm in control of my body and my health.

Worst part about being Primal: Having to explain it to family and having them constantly reply with conventional wisdom. Also, the fact that eating the correct way, that we were meant to always eat, is so difficult due to the dwindling amount of "real food" available on this planet.

I've been out of shape and overweight for the better part of 10 years. That's how long I've been at my present job. I sit for almost 12 hrs a day. I'm not trying to make any excuses, however I've gotten myself into a rut and can't seem to get out. I've done the low-carb thing with temporary success. But my wife (pellegrina) was never on board. Now that we are both starting the primal lifestyle I feel that I'll finally be successful. Wish us luck.
