    I'm 31 years old and here's my short story on how events on my life path lead me to primal life style. And I didn't even know that I have had been primal for a long time up until few weeks ago.

    After finishing college back in 2003 I had some self image issues that I wanted to fix. I was 5'11" at 145lb, resembling some sort of a stick looking alien like creature. Since I had more time on my hands at that point I took up weight lifting. First in my parents basement, then at a local gym. First months I made all the noobish mistakes and ignored proper diet. I was making very little progress limited to slightly improved definition but not size wise. It wasn't up until I improved my lifting split and started educating myself about proper diet and nutrition. It was back then when the most popular approach was to do the 40/40/20 calorie split (40% - carbs, 40% - protein, 20% - fat). So that's what I stuck to for several years and along with solid lifting regime I managed to bulk up to 190lb. It was a slow but steady process and I liked the results.

    What I didn't like was how the diet acted upon my body, which I did not realize at that point. I was constantly troubled by gastro-intestinal issues and severe brain fog combined with progressive memory issues along with random outbreaks of depression and anxiety. I tried many remedies: off the shelf supplements, lecithin, specially formulated vitamin packs, memory training etc. Nothing was helping for my brain fog. I could not find any help for my gut problems either.

    Then since 2005 I have developed a constant pain in the upper right corner of my abdominal area (commonly called right upper quadrant pain). At first, it was mild but then with time it developed into a fully annoying and life screwing problem. I started seeing doctors, none found anything. They all did a battery of tests: blood, liver, gastroscopy, HIDA scan etc. Finally, the last specialist I saw gave up on my case completely and asked me to find someone else to diagnose me. I had to take matters in my own hands. So I tried all possible methods I could get my hands on but nothing could stop it permanently. Meanwhile I religiously continued with my gym and the 40/40/20 diet.

    Fast forward couple of years to Dec 2010 and due to certain life events I paused my gym activities for couple of months, my old dieting (which I thought was right) went down the drain, I indulged in a range of horrible foods and lots of beer. Needles to say it came back to bite my ass and I topped the scale at almost 200lb. But that was the least of my worries, I was a mental wreck, short tempered, giving up on the smallest obstacles, and developing a tendency to overuse alcohol. So something had to be done to change that for better.

    During my yet another research about proper dieting I came across a fitness specific ketonic diet. It was a love at first sight. So without further delays I jumped into it. It called for very low carb intake (less then 30g daily) from regular foods and for targeted carb loading pre and post gym workouts, high fat and moderate protein (65%fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs). Major foods included a lot of meet, cheese, eggs, and veggies. I loved it! I did not experience any adverse initial side effects (fatigue, sleeplessness, brain fog) like other folks did but instead after only few days on it my situation has turned up side down and inside out. The brain fog that bugged me for years started to go away, my energy levels sky rocketed, no more gut issues and excessive bloating, the weight started coming slowly down, alcohol craving went out the window, and my well being simply improved so drastically I could not believe that it was actually happening. The best part of it was that the abdominal pain started to go away.

    For several months I followed the new life style and it's been awesome. Then I stumbled across several primal/paleo information sources and started reading more about them. It turned out that their description has matched my recent life style perfectly, not only diet wise but also when it comes to being physically active and in touch with nature. Since then I have dropped to a comfortable 175lb at about 13% BF, feeling awesome and energetic. I got my brother to go primal after I got his interest when he saw my results, and now my parents are asking more and more but their transition will be slower and harder.

    I wish I found out about it sooner but I'm still glad I did eventually and I'm never looking back. Thanks for reading my long-short story and HI!

    Welcome. Your story shows again that other, well meaning approaches to health generally don't work, and that Primal does work, dramatically.

      It's scary how many people who could benefit from that are so ignorant to such a simple solution and instead opt out for whatever the media is promoting at that point.
