    • Hi Gemstar....

Thank you for your reply. I recently left Israel after two years living and learning in the old city, where I began this thread. As I was studying there, I had some limited options, and you can read all about my adventures here!

Totally agree that its all a process. I think I started this thinking I would be trim and sharp after 6 months, and while I have lost a heap of body fat, I also am stuck fluctuating with the last 10 kgs. Takes a lot of steam out of me, and I must admit, I do eat for comfort. But every bit helps, and in the log run, I plan to get where I want to be

We are in a totally different world, because I'm a grannie who is into cooking and baking, and I've been experimenting with alternatives for many many years. I call Passover LOW CARB, because most of the traditional cakes prepared are made from nut flours! So I made energy balls from tehini, date syrup, almond meal, and some pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. I also added some chocolate chips. I also made balls from coconut, almond butter, honey and almond meal.

Even tho we can't keep this diet based on pastured natural animal products, it's still a million times healthier than the SAD or the SID.
One of my biggest issues is variety. I would love it if I could get a copy of some of your recipes if possible. Given the issue of keeping kosher, on top of primal, it means that sometimes I have an issue with keeping things fresh with different tastes. I burned myself out on a number of foods (Cottage Cheese I just can't look at let alone eat anymore, but I was eating it with salad like 3 times a day!) and am always looking at new ideas and flavours. For me, preparation is the key, having food to go to when I am hungry, otherwise I get tripped up...

Do you add coconut oil to your menu? It's great stuff. If you do, buy only the oil that is imported by a company called Jammoka. The other CO's are partially hydrogenated oils. You can tell the best CO by the slight aroma of coconut, the other oils do not have this aroma. CO is very healthy and helps with adding the extra fat we need to stay satiated.
Yes, yes, YES! My total answer to a lot of things while in Israel! I am in Canada now, and the coconut oil here is affecting my stomach, but Jammoka was amazing. I have a bottle on its way to Australia and should be there when I get back home. I was eating it and adding it to everything... Wow, do I miss it now that you mention it...

Any ideas or thought you might have Gemstar, I would love to hear and share with you. I need to get some ingredients and cook up a storm. Prepare for success...

      Shalom...

        • New update :

Still going strong, although I have had a few slip ups. Got stuck at a friends house where dinner was soup and bread, so I had one piece and as much soup as there was. I went to bed hungry, but I got to work it off peddling around the streets the next day.

Heading back to Australia really soon, where I hope to take things to the next level. Keep things going smoothly in the right direction. I now see that the real challenge is not starting living primally, but keeping it there over a long period of time. I like my carbs and sugars, and need to just take myself off them, and keep on track...

Moving to eating a lot more salads, but noticed that a lot of them are full of dressings that are just full of sugars... Need to find something I can make and bring with me so I can keep off that junk...

Reading the Primal Blueprint again. Need a refresher. Where were the days when I read this in a day and started... <sigh>

Love you all, you just never knew it...

            • Good to hear you're doing well Shifty. As for salad dressings: I make mine as a Olive oil/Balsamic vinegar base. Then I add spices such as cumin, oregano, garlic powder and basil. My latest batch has cinnamon and it is fantastic. I make it in wine bottle sizes and use it throughout the week. Very tasty, and no CRAP included! Good luck, and keep up the good work. I'm always around if you need tips:-)

              • Thanks guys...

Been hitting the primal track, but ended up making some hard decisions last night. See, I was at my engagement party, and just had to have a piece of cake to celebrate!

If I ever needed motivation, I certainly have it now! Three months and counting down, and I am going to push everything as hard as I can so that when I walk down the aisle, Im looking good and feeling great... for me!

Just wanted to share the good news with you all. Amazing time here, but Super primal begins now!

Love you all, you just never knew it...

                      • Thanks guys....
Its an amazing time... Looks like I will becoming a native Canadian in time...

WHen it was snowing here, I went for my first "SnowRoll" on a frozen lake... can't get anymore primal than that!

                        Anyway....

Hitting it hard, Working my way back down to kinotosis, but right now I have to survive the next two weeks, then back to Australia. There I will have some more time to train and adjust my food intake. I know I have lost a lot of weight, but when I see myself, I can only see the weight I gained. Mostly in my face. Im critical, but I looked at a picture of myself at my sisters wedding, and I lost a lot of the puppy fat in my cheeks. Now to do it again...

Food has consisted of mainly meat and vegetables... More vegis than meat...
I did find myself eating nonstop yesterday. I just could not feel full. When I finally realised what was going on, I realised I was nervous about a few things, and was hitting food as an "enjoyment" trigger. Once I knew what was going on, I curbed it. Need to keep that in mind...

Biking around town is a good way to keep active. Now I just need to adjust!

Love you all, you use never knew it...

                        • Update :

Yesterday went really well... Morning I ate two eggs cooked in coconut oil, and then I got an emergency call, and had to fill in for someone who didn't turn up to work. Meant I was on my feet all day, so more exercise built into my day!

Lunch was some chicken and black eye peas and cost vegetables. I did eat a few fries, I think like a handful throughout he afternoon, simply cause they were available. Dinner for me was a small bowl of chilli.

I have been curving my tendency to eat, so its been good. Ling night, but I got a solid seven hours.

Today I have been holding off eating anything, cause I know friday night dinners are big. I'll miss breakfast, and have something small to hold me off around lunch....

                          More to come Sat night...

Love you all, you just never knew it...

                          • Hey Guys....

Shifty here. Been a long time.
Sometimes you fall off the wagon, and some times it takes you some time to get back on again!

Quick update, let you know where I am.

Engagement failed a week before the wedding, and then I dragged myself back to Australia after moving to Canada. Was a hard ordeal, cause I was there with family and friends. No closure, no explanation, just done.

I fell into a hole, and I ate to try and fill myself and elevate my pain. At my worst, I actually stood by the refrigerator and ate whatever I could get my hands on, for an hour. I cleaned it out. It was extreme, but it didn't last long.

I'm working threw my stuff, its been two months now, and last Sunday I flicked threw "The Primal Blueprint" again, and walked away from grains and sugars. Carb flu hit me that afternoon, night and most of Monday. By lunchtime, I was felling better, and already I feel more energy, and less hungry.

My best results on being primal was when I logged my results here, and told you guys what I was up to. While I have some weight on me, I am not as bad as I could be, but still, it eats into my self esteem. Right now, thats a large part of how I feel.

So, with that, Let the report begin.

                            (Take Three)
                            Day 1 : Monday 12 November 2012

Woke Up to a huge carb flu headache. I forgot how bad it feels to come off complex carbs. I got to be honest, all I wanted to do was grab some bread or a sugary snack. By 11am, I was threw the worst of it, and then came Lunch!

Lunch : 3 egg omelette with red onions and mushrooms, as well as an avocado with Flax Oil.
Dinner : A meat Pie (and I did eat the crust! Slow steps!)
Snack was cashew nuts, I ate sparingly. I also made myself a pot of ginger tea, which I drank later in the night, help offset hunger pains.

Fitday numbers for this fits day
                            Cals : 1,669, Fats : 123.3, Carbs : 102.5, Protein : 57.7

Not bad, a good solid start.

Thanks for reading. I hope my old primal friends are about and say hello.

And ideas, comments, or suggestions are always welcome!

                            • Day 2 : Tuesday 13 November 2012

Had a rough nights sleep, woke up at 2am, and didn't fall asleep again till around 5am. Woke up and was out of bed by 6.45 am. Skipped breakfast, and headed off to work...

Was feeling great, not hungry and went with it. Around lunch time, I had a piece of baked sweet potato, and a mix of walnuts and cashews. I finished it off with a small avocado!

I didn't feel hungry at all, so I so I went without this afternoon, and made myself a 2 egg omelette with red onions and mushrooms. That was dinner, and I finished it off with a pot of ginger tea.

Fitday numbers for this second day:
                              Cals : 2028, Fats : 166.7, Carbs : 106.8, Protein : 58.3

Feel great, looking forward to tomorrow!
