  • Someday, I'm going to beat all the boys at everything. (Intro + pics!)

Hi Primal-ers! (is that a word?)

I am relatively new to the Primal/Paleo scene, but since having been clued in to it several months ago I've been reading blogs and forums and books fairly ravenously. A couple of years ago I quit gluten on the advice of a nutritionist, which made a -hell- of a difference in both my energy levels and alertness. I was in a mental fogbank all through grade school and most of college, and I'm beginning to wonder if all that ADD I was labeled with was mostly due to the SAD.

Between then and going Primal I worked out with kettle bells infrequently, and ate what I -thought- was healthily, but looking back, even cutting out gluten, I was still ingesting a ton of sugar and corn products. I've never had defined muscles, especially in the stomach area, and I just got increasingly despondant about my shape.

Going primal wasn't a huge leap, as friends will tell you I'm a dedicated carnivore and I hate gluten like it's made of death, but I -did- have to get used to vegetables (I love them now. I eat entire cans of pumpkin, particularly. Tastes like Halloween!) Quitting sugar was the toughest. (It's in everything! D: ) I think after first starting with paleo I was eating way too many nuts and fruits, and not exercising ideally, and not seeing any changes.

Recently I've really buckled down on optimal eating and exercising, but aside from beautiful new mental clarity and an excitement for life, I haven't seen much of a difference in body composition. (I haven't actually weighed myself in years, I'm terrified of scales.) I want to get rid of this lingering spare tire and actually see my abs, dammit!

I'm 26, female, 5'5". These are very recent pictures of me:

And I apologize for the extreme dorkiness of this bicep shot:

I'm thinking of not looking in a full length mirror or even pinching the fat around my middle for five weeks, then doing this Primal thing harder than ever and seeing what happens. Thoughts? Otherwise I just depress myself with mirror critique and feel inclined to eat entire quarter jars of coconut butter.

PS. I love you all! Discovering this lifestyle has been the best thing that's happened to me health and well-being wise in years! <3

The eating: Not terribly varied. Consists mainly of chicken and beef (unfortunately, the cheap stuff. I am poor.), eggs, broccoli, cauliflower, a ton of pumpkin, and coconut everything. I've recently become addicted to these pancakes: (Pretty in Primal: Perfect Paleo Pumpkin Pancakes). I tend to overindulge in cashews, pistachios, and raisins on the weekends, and sometimes I take one of those probably awful metabolism boosters in the morning in place of coffee.

        Good luck from me too!

This section of the forum doesn't seem to get too much traffic. Come on right to the fitness and nutrition sections to find more people to discuss all things related to your goals.
