  • I just ate a cup cake!!

It's my daughter's birthday today and I just ate one of her cupcakes!
Have I ruined the good effects of two weeks of primal eating?
I ate it an hour ago and suddenly feel woobly and racy.
    Eek... what have I done?

It will be alright....don't beat yourself up over it... just keep on keeping on and you'll be fine.

You've had a great hands-on lesson in "that much sugar doesn't feel good".

2 weeks into primal, my taste for sugar hadn't abated anywhere near as much as it has now, 10 weeks in. Maybe you'll get to that same point where eating a cup cake is unappealing. In the meantime, don't beat yourself up. One of the things I love about primal and the support on this forum is the pragmatic approach of 80%/20%...nobody is expecting that you to be perfect, and neither should you!

Zone diet on and off for several years....worked, but too much focus on exact meal composition
Primal since July 2010...skinniest I've ever been and the least stressed about food

The worst thing you can do is beat yourself up. Take a deep breath and move forward. BUT, keep in mind how you felt after eating it. Not only the emotional beating you're giving yourself but how your tummy feels. I just attended an office birthday party full of chocolate cupcakes and ice cream. A few months ago, I would have really struggled with saying "no" but this time it didn't phase me. All I could think about was how bad my tummy would hurt (and would hurt for a few hours) versus the 5 seconds of sugar bliss.

As others have said... learning experience. No need to worry or guilt. This is all about what you're doing overall in the long-term, right?

Sunday night I had a peice of my bros ice cream cake since it was his birthday. It was delicious and I would(will) do it again. Canadian Thanksgiving is here shortly after all. I did feel weird for a few hours after that and on Monday morning I was ravenous when I usually fast till 12:30 without any hunger at all. Then on Wednesday there was cookies and cupcakes in the lunch room at work. Needless to say they made me feel weird just looking at them so I did not touch them. Choose your battles and don't beat yourself up. I will be having cake at my sons birthday in November for sure!

Uh, it's a cupcake. Relax and don't eat another one for a while.

80/20 Rule! Like Marks says in his book, you notice the effects of it and that will make you less likely to do that in the future. That being said, it's your daughters birthday, you enjoyed a cupcake with her. Can't be upset about moments like that!

Come on everybody - we're primal here - stop being so soft! She ate a cupcake, A CUPCAKE! Cupcakes easily blow past any 20% anywhere and depending on total food consumption for the day, a single cupcake may be up to 21 or even 22% - well over Mark's recommendation of 20%. This is clearly a violation and it's obvious to me that the OP doesn't take her pb lifestyle seriously enough. Now is the time for ridicule and forum-wide humiliation, not for coddling. I'm thinking of emailing Mark that there's a imposter here - an standard diet devotee who risks bringing us all down to her little version of debauchery. Jeez!

BTW - did that cupcake have those colorful little sprinkles on top? God I love those!
