  • Hello from Perth, West Oz.

    Hi everybody!

I started low carbing on 7th July due to working with a model that is on the same.
I have to say, I feel great. I haven't really lost any weight, because I don't really have much to lose... I'm sitting on the 56kg mark @ 167 cms.

Just doing this because I know carbs are not good for the body and too many people rely on them and wonder why they are so tired all the time!

However, this Sat that just went past, I went to this baby's 1st birthday party and it was processed food galore!! I stupidly thought, I'd be okay and had some sandwiches etc.... when I got home, I felt like a had a carb/sugar hangover and slept for 3 hours. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Anyway, after lurking these forums for the past month, I'd thought I'd join up and say hello

    Cheers,
    Low Carb Princess

Thanks for the link! My brother exports meat to other countries and i asked him about grass fed beef and he said that most of our meat is grassfed especially during summer. I myself cannot afford to buy organic, however I do buy organic eggs!

So the stuff we buy in Woolies and Coolies are all grass-fed?

Hello! i come from sunny Queensland, beef capital of Australia!
I would definitely not be relying on Woolies meat being grass fed. In 99 the stats were- 20 million head cattle produced in Oz and a half a million of these poor buggers went into feed lots (with the capacity for double this number). That was 11 y ago and i imagine the number would have escalated since then. I would suggest that the US has really embraced feed lots because it's so darn cheap and water is abundant as opposed to the situation here.
But I'd always ask. A butcher will be your best bet or there's a few places online where you buy 1/4 cow for eg.
As to raw cheese- well, that's a tricky one. You know we can't legally produce raw cheeses in Australia but we can import a small handful of varieties- eg Roquefort. If you have a source of raw milk (look up the raw milk movement) or inquire among your alternative network and you might just find someone with a cow. I make my own feta but i have to confess it's pretty time consuming (several hours) but not at all difficult. Look up cheeselinks or greenlivingaustralia for supplies. If you are careful about sterilizing your equipment, you should have a beautiful, scrumptious result. One final note is that I've never had any success with hard cheeses. I'm sure this is because i haven't pasteurized the milk as recommended and a cross contamination has developed.

You need to look for an MLA grassfed sticker. Woolies, Coles and bigger stores should all have it, if not ask at your local butcher.
