  • ketosis

I have been doing the pb lifestyle for the last 3 months with great success but have lately found that i'm in ketosis. (bad breathe, very poor sleep and poor balance) Is this because I'm not eating enough veggies and fruit? How do I correct this problem and insure that it does not continue.

oh, and if you really want out of ketosis, in spite of all the brain and body benefits, just eat more carbs.

One thing I've noticed about ketosis.. my breath is bad and I have no idea what to do other than to coat my tongue in peppermint oil! Thoughts?

Using a tongue scraper regularly helps.

I have.. no good. It's only when I'm in ketosis.

As you ketoadapt, I suspect it will resolve.

What makes you believe it to be a problem? Have you been reading all those scare stories bandied about by sites against (V)LC dieting? They are - mistakenly - or deliberately - confusing it with ketoacidosis, which is only a problem if you're diabetic and, yes, this can be life-threatening.

Wikipedia article on ketoacidosis: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabetic_ketoacidosis

Ketosis, OTOH, is perfectly safe, perfectly natural, result of low carbing (I'm deliberatly aiming to get back there myself, just to make my life a tad less stressful!) and has many benefits.

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/faq...tisketosis.htm - brief article on ketosis.

Ketosis is a Good Thing. Trust us on this.

I used to really notice the ketosis breath. Not anymore though.
I am basically always in ketosis. I don't notice breath problems unless I am fasting in some way, or just haven't eaten in 5+ hours.

I never seem to get bad breath from ketosis for some reason. I brush, tongue scrape and use mouthwash daily though.

I just wanted to add, and this is not meant to contradict any other posts, but not everyone thrives in ketosis. I really wish I could myself because of all the positive benefits I have learned about it, but in reality my body simply hates being in ketosis... possibly due to having only one kidney. But nonetheless I gave it an honest four weeks and never did adapt to it properly. I think the key is finding the right macronutrient ratio that works for YOU and going with that. Best of luck to you!
