  • Loose vs Lose

Now that so many people are losing weight, maybe it's time for a little spelling refresher on the difference between loose and lose?

I know this probably sounds either facetious or anal retentive. The latter would be correct :-)

I hardly ever see that on these forums... or maybe I've just become desensitized. On another weight-loss message board I used to frequent, I actually saw the wrong spelling MORE OFTEN than the right one. Drove me nuts.

I'm a notorious grammar/ spelling Nazi. I try to contain it on the web. It doesn't stay contained as much as it should. The spelling/ grammar/ correct use issue that just kills me is text- speak on a forum. I hate it and refuse to use it anyways, but it drives me bat- shit. I can't read a post written like that for fear of unloading on them.

Yes, loose has its place, but losing sight of spelling is never a good thing. Although, if I am typing on an iPhone, auto spell is just a frickin' nightmare! I always seem to lose the "r" on your and my writing often comes out as if it was written by a toothless hillbilly. Although, some of the content probably comes across the same way regardless of the spelling. Nevertheless, loose is what you(r) pants are after you lose weight.

LOL... I think the lose/loose mixup is my number one pet peeve. And thankfully, yes, most of the people on this forum are pretty literate, so you definitely don't see it as much here!

I mix up my its/it's sometimes though... I usually catch it but for some reason my fingers go automatically to the wrong one most of the time! :-)

And Beefy... agree on the iphone. I turned my autospell off. It was changing half of my text to the incorrect stuff... drove me nuttier than usual!

LTC, I think the accept text speech version is
"U's guys r getn rly lose w/ ur grmr." *shudders*
I'll go the grammar Nazi hell now...
