I've drank the diet sodas and they mess with my appetite and make me crave more. A better way is pure water and unsweet teas. There are many varieties. Move more and exercise. Plan meals and snacks ahead and take my own lunch. Always plan meals at home and away.

If the researchers are correct, it seems skipping the diet soda and having a glass of water instead can help you feel better, look better and live longer.

Agreed, primalman08.

The other thing I'd like to point out is that regular (non-diet) soda didn't correlate with increased risk of MetSyn. Weird huh?

"I will have the #1 meal deal with the Big Mac, Fries and a Diet Coke."

I think that it is classic, spurious correlation. Those that choose fast food and/or processed foods are much more likely to wash it down with a diet soda. I have never seen someone eat fast food and compliment it with a fine wine. The high sodium content in processed foods go great with a sweet beverage.

I have a problem with how correlational research is reported in the media, because the average "Joe" does not understand the difference between correlation and causation.

I bet all those artificial sweeteners only lead to a more overworked liver and lower thyroid production...all which lead to weight gain as well.
