Contest Results: Q&A with Mark

Congratulations to Ed, Wyatt, Ken, VN, and Dan. You have won copies of The Primal Blueprint.

As Aaron mentioned, we received nearly 250 fantastic questions. I could spend the next few months writing blog posts to address these questions exclusively. Needless to say, I’ll be using the comment board as a source of future MDA fodder, so check back often for answers to all of your questions.

What do you think of this video? It was our first time doing it this way, so it was a bit of an experiment. Do you like the format? There are a number of things I’d do differently in the future, but if you generally enjoy video content let me know and I’ll see about making this a regular feature of the blog.

Speaking of multi-media features on Mark’s Daily Apple, what does everyone think of a podcast? Would you be inclined to listen to an internet radio program in which I answer reader questions, hold interviews and discuss the Primal lifestyle? It’s just in the idea phase now, so I’d like to get a feeling for whether you’d be interested before putting it all together.

Thanks again to everyone for participating in this contest. Grok on!

  1. I loved the video format and think the podcast is an excellent idea! While I love reading the daily blog, it would also be sweet to be able to listen to Primal information on my computer, iPod, etc.

  2. Any chance of getting a transcript? :) I read on breaks at work and pictures/streaming media are eaten by the firewall. Will check it out tonight when I get home!

  3. I love the video Q&A. My suggestion is to look into using Vimeo.com, it’s free and they don’t put a 10min limit. The idea of a podcast is fantastic. I listen to podcasts everyday at work, on the bus, and for fun. I hope it happens.
P.S. The Seattle BBQ meet-up is set for 8/22 so look out for photos/video soon!

    • Thanks for the suggestion, jose. Unfortunately, both of the videos above exceed Vimeo’s file size limit of 500 MB. I wanted to upload the videos at high res. This means a large file size.

    • Awesome! Can’t wait to see pics and videos. Maybe I can feature them during the challenge. Let me know and we can coordinate it all. Cheers!

    • A Seattle meetup??? I’m in Tacoma, and while I won’t be in town on the 22nd, I would love to get on the mailing list for any future gatherings. My email is livingprimal@hotmail.com

  4. A podcast would be a good add to the blog (although I love the blog the way it is now:)). Good to listen while driving or at the bus/subway.

  8. Podcasts would be great. I like to listen to various podcasts while on the Concept Rower doing the painful Crossfit Endurance workouts. :)

  9. Enjoyed the video.
Podcasts would be fantastic. Please, please, please!

  10. Love the blog the way it is but would welcome the videos and podcasts in addition…

  11. Podcasts are really nice, allowing me to multi-task–I esp. like to tie flies at my desk while listening to podcasts!

  12. I’d love to listen to a podcast while I hike the hills near my house. But I also love to read the info. Thanks for these answers!

  13. I would also love a podcast.

  14. I dug the video, and would like a podcast. You have to full around with how often though. Maybe only once or twice a month would do.

  16. I’ll be the dissenter…I prefer to read info instead of watching videos. :)

BarbeyGirl wrote on August 11th, 2009
    • I hear you, BarbeyGirl. It’s easier to scan an article than it is video or audio content.

I suppose some content is more suited for videos than others; instructional workout videos for instance.

I’ll keep this in mind. Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Mark Sisson wrote on August 11th, 2009
      • Being a big time multi-tasker, Podcasts running in the background are a might convenient way for me to get in my daily dose of nutritional info while still getting the bills paid.

Grok wrote on August 11th, 2009
  17. I’m another dissenter. Not all questions have the same interest level. And we read faster than people talk.

I’ve found that I’ve lost interest in blogs that take their content to video or podcast.

By the comments, I’m clearly in a small minority.

Good blog, though. As a very low carber since 2002, I’ve learned new things from your site.

  18. I would love to see you start podcasting! Videos I have less of an interest in because they are not always convenient for me to watch. I can listen virtually anywhere I go, however.

  19. Yep this was cool. More videos please!

  21. I liked the video format. But I find the MDA e-mail a little confusing with regard to the contests. I thought I was submitting a question, but it ended up in the comments somewhere else. My question was about what you do in the winter in the northeast, when fresh fruits and vegetables, especially locally grown ones, are not readily available. Recommendations?

Another suggestion: put the “leave a reply” box at the top of the comments so we don’t have to scroll down through the hundreds of comments to get to it. Thanks for listening!

  22. I liked this video a lot! Podcasts would be cool too!

Yummy wrote on August 11th, 2009
  23. Love the video format. My suggestion would be to sprinkle a few into the blog here and there (rather than switching to all video), and keep them very short (3 min?). I’m watching at work, so short ones are easier to sneak in.

Personally, I don’t spend time listening to podcasts any more. When I used to drive or ride the bus, I loved them. Now I primarily ride my bike or walk, and I like to practice being present for both those activities rather than tuned into something else.

  26. i like videos for instuctional use (as previously mentioned) Podcasts are handy but I’m a bookworm & prefer to read.

  27. Thanks for picking my question! I like the Q&A video format and I think that short and sweet (4-6 min) podcasts on specific topics would be a great addition to MDA. Thanks again for inspiring me to try the Primal Blueprint!

  28. podcast! yes! aside from jimmy moore most of the “health and fitness” podcasts are all about CW.

  30. I’d like to join the ranks of those who prefer to read. I read the blog and comments at work when I have a break but would never have the time to watch a video. Since I’m more interested in nutritional information than exercise recommendations, feel free to put the exercises on video :-)

Nancy wrote on August 12th, 2009
  31. I think podcasts would be great, but really enjoy the idea of video. I’m a very visual person. Not only that, but I wouldn’t mind seeing your beaches when I’m sitting in Chicago’s winter snow.

Chris wrote on August 12th, 2009
  32. I love video’s. Everything seems more real and do-able if you see someone else doing it.

I think you should have a “Primal Virtue Video Thursday” every week on the blog! Doesnt have to be thursday, just thought of it quickest.

Video’s could be cooking, exercise or generaly talking any unclear points of the PB.

  34. I think the videos are great. There’s a tendency to believe that “Mark” or whoever the author is of any product, comes up with the initial marketing idea and gives the rest away to his or her team to handle. With video, you eliminate the idea that you don’t really know what you’re talking about and it’s obvious you know your stuff cold so keep it going!

  35. Mark, The Q&A videos and podcasts is not just a good idea, it is and excellent idea.

  36. I’ve followed you since 2004 when I found you on ‘KNOW THE CAUSE’. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video Q&A with Aaron and Mark. Hope you can keep it going… (can you get any busier?) among all the things you do!!!
I appreciate your website and all the valuble info you provide and especially the products we have the health advantages of. Got the book already and am reading and hopefully reaping it’s information. This whole lifestyle change isn’t easy at 50! But like you said in the video… it’s about being able to keep moving, playing and working. Actually making the golden years… ‘golden’. The best is yet to come! The main thing I want you to know is that people NEED someone they can have confidence in. The medical care system has lost the confidence of people like me. (long story) So to have you with all your knowledge so available to find answers from is just simply put…. a blessing from our creator ( the guy in the sky, who is responsible for Grok’s design )
Thankyou for caring about people! We love you too!

  38. I’d much rather read a post than take the time to watch a video. However, I love the podcast idea! I listen to a lot of podcasts while commuting, and since I’m almost done with your book, I’m hungry for MORE! Anything I can do while driving is a plus.
