Contest: Make a Primal Blueprint Workout Video

The Prize:

Hold your fist-pumps of glee until the end, because I’m giving away an arsenal of equipment for this one…

A Spear. That’s right, an actual spear you can spear things with. You’ve seen Grok jumping with one. Now you can. The technical name is an Assegai Spear, and it comes courtesy of Cold Steel (with a leather sheath included). Cold Steel makes a wide variety of brutal weapons tools, like those crazy war clubs from the Last of the Mohicans. If you’re in the SoCal area, they’ve got their own Challenge going on later this month.

A Mace. Just as deadly useful as a spear, the winner will receive a plate loadable mace, courtesy of Stronger Grip. BONUS: Enter the code “MDA20” when ordering from for a 20% discount. And for those of you who aren’t into winning or buying stuff, the owner of Stronger Grip also runs a blog for folks who like to build their own equipment: DIY Strength.

A Rope. Undulation ropes to be exact, courtesy of CalRopes. If you’re not sure what “rope undulating” is all about, watch these videos. It’s basically like a wind sprint for your upper body. Winner will receive a 40 foot 1.5″ manila undulation rope.

A Sandbag. Josh Henkin of Henkin Fitness knows sandbags. I’ve been using one of Josh’s fitness bags for over a year now and the thing is still going strong. The one at my office has been lifted, tossed, and dropped by my Worker Bees, and in one case was the cause of a broken piece of IKEA furniture, but that’s a story for another day. The winner will get a choice of one of the four sizes of ultimate sandbag (strength, power, burly, or challenge packages).

That’s the package. A spear, a mace, a sandbag, and undulation ropes. Now how you can win this Primal prize package…

The Contest:

Create and upload a Primal workout video to YouTube. Whether you talk and offer instruction, or simply film yourself playing in the park or working out in the gym is up to you. I’ll leave it wide open. The only requirement is that the video relates in some way to the Primal Blueprint Fitness philosophy. The more Primal the better (NOTE: This is different from the WOW video contest.)

To give you a little idea of the fun you can have with this one, last year people used toddlers for heavy lifting, recorded an entire day in the “Primal Life,” wrote their own Grok songs, created workouts for parents with no time, and check out last year’s winning video:

The video needs to be an original video made for the purposes of this contest. Please title the video “Primal Blueprint Fitness:” followed by your own sub-title.

Upload your video to YouTube and then email me the link. I’ll publish select videos on Mark’s Daily Apple at the end of the month. Include the words “Workout Video Submission” in the subject line of your email. Otherwise, there’s a good chance I may completely miss your submission.

The Deadline:

September 26, midnight, PST. You’ve got some time on this one, so make a good one!

Who is Eligible:

Anyone in the world can enter, though some prizes will only be available to U.S. contestants. In the case of an international winner, substitute prizes of equal value will be shipped.

How A Winner Will Be Decided:

Video submissions will be posted on September 28. Myself and the Worker Bees will choose a list of finalists to be voted on by readers.

Fine Print:

MDA reserves the right to publish and/or edit any submission.

You want comments? We got comments:

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

  3. Nice workout video.

I’m a big fan of bodyweight exercises as they can literally be done near enough anywhere, plus you don’t need equipment.

It’s a a great natural way of exercising.

    All the best,

    Furniture? Furniture?

    You actually have furniture!

I thought you squatted around your computers among piles of leaves and animal skin.

  20. The mace looks sweet, but perusing the StrongerGrip website I came across the “Gut Wrench.” That thing looks A-MAZING for primal resistance work.
