Contest: Make a Primal Blueprint Recipe Video

The Prize:

I’m giving away a huge assortment today, starting with…

A Primal/paleo Cookbook Library – Just a couple years ago it was next to impossible to find a high-quality Primal/paleo/ancestral health cookbook on the market. I set out to change that and released The Primal Blueprint Cookbook in 2010 and Primal Blueprint Quick & Easy Meals earlier this year. With the growing popularity of the Primal health movement other fantastic books have recently been published or are about to drop soon. The lucky winner of this contest will receive every book featured in the pic to the right: Eat Well Feel Good (just released, a couple of my recipes are in this publication), Make it Paleo (releases soon, I wrote the foreword to this one!), Everyday Paleo (released earlier this year, this book is more than a cookbook), Paleo Comfort Foods (releases soon, the full page photos in this one will have you salivating), and The Garden of Eating (a perennial Primal favorite, author Chef Rachel was a guest presenter at PrimalCon last year). I have copies of each of these on my bookshelf and highly recommend them all.

Alaskan Salmon – Courtesy of Wild Pacific Salmon, the winner of today’s contest will receive 3 lbs of either king or sockeye salmon (your choice) from the Copper River. Salmon freaks out there know what a treat this is; and for any non-salmon freaks out there, prepare to be freaked, salmon style.

The salmon will be overnighted to your door. So browse through your new cookbooks, find the best looking salmon recipe and prepare for a delicious, Primal meal.

Beef Jerky – Nothing washes down fresh Alaskan salmon better than a mouthful of dried cow. Slant Shack Jerky is donating 1 lb of all-natural, grass-fed beef jerky in a variety of their signature flavors to the winner this year. For jerky aficionados, this is the company with the nifty Build-a-Jerky feature on their site. And if you do decide to build a jerky, might I suggest the garlic rub. Also, might I suggest this video: It’s About Time You Meet Your Soul Meat. BONUS: Use “MDAJERKY” to receive 15% off until the end of October.

Sandbag – If all that cooking didn’t tire you out, grab this heavy hunk of unwieldiness and get moving. The winner will receive Alpha Strong’s Thy Coach. Fill it with up to 50 lbs of sand and you’ve got a Primal workout just waiting to happen… Stalk the unwitting beast from afar. Slowly approach so as not to scare away your dinner. Then pounce on your prey, throw it over your shoulder and carry it home. Job well done. MDA readers, use promo code “PRIMAL11” at to receive a 15% discount.

The Primal Blueprint Platinum PackageThe Platinum Package is the ultimate in supplementation and is what thousands of Primal enthusiasts and I take daily. Includes: Damage Control Master Formula, Primal Fuel, Primal Flora, Vital Omegas, and Vitamin D booster. With a 30-day supply of a high-antioxidant multi-vitamin complex, omega-3 fish oils, healthy probiotics, vitamin D and a delicious, coconut-based Primal meal replacement shake, the Platinum Package is a comprehensive, convenient and cost-effective way to live a healthy, Primal life in the modern world.

The Primal Library, the Alaskan Salmon, the Grass Fed Jerky, the Sandbag and the Platinum Package. That’s well over $600 of Primal goodies to get you in to the kitchen and cooking…

The Contest:

Create and upload a Primal recipe video to YouTube. Have you mastered the omelet? Are you an almond flour fiend? Maybe your salad is so mean, it can win a chili cookoff. If so, let the world in on your secrets. Grab your camcorder, and show us how to make something Primal. There aren’t really restrictions on how you do it. The only requirement is that your video relates in some way to the Primal Blueprint eating plan. Show the world (how to prepare) your best Primal dish and you could be the winner of the complete Primal package listed above.

For an idea of what you can do, check out some of 2009’s highlights, including spareribs, vegetable fritters, Primal nutella, and coconut pancakes.

Here’s 2009’s winning video, Skinless Gyoza:

Check out all the 2010 submissions here. Here is last year’s winning video:

The video needs to be an original video made for the purposes of this contest. Please title the video “Primal Blueprint Recipe:” followed by your own sub-title.

Upload your video to YouTube and then email me the link. I’ll publish select videos on Mark’s Daily Apple at the end of the month. Include the words “Recipe Video Submission” in the subject line of your email. Otherwise, there’s a good chance I may completely miss your submission.

The Deadline:

September 28, midnight PST.

Who is Eligible:

While anyone can enter, the salmon and jerky are only available to U.S. residents. In the case of an international winner, a substitute prize of equal value will be awarded.

How A Winner Will Be Decided:

Video submissions will be posted toward the end of the Challenge. The Worker Bees and I will choose a list of finalists to be voted on by readers.

Fine Print:

MDA reserves the right to publish and/or edit any videos submitted.

To track all the contests visit the 2011 Primal Blueprint 30-Day Challenge Contest Page for daily updates.

You want comments? We got comments:

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

  1. So much fun! Awesome prizes, too. Can’t wait to see what the MDA crowd comes up with!

    • What will you come up with, Anne!?

  2. When I first read the Fine Print I read it as, “MDA reserves the right to publish and/or EAT any videos submitted.” I think it may be time for lunch.
Good luck to anyone entering! I look forward to getting some tips.

    • I think they probably reserve that right too!

    • You can still enter! I’m not in the US and I sure plan to.

      “Who is Eligible:

You’re still eligible for the books – its just that you can’t ship food across borders very easily.

You’re still eligible to win fabulous prizes even though you are outside the US. The salmon and jerky will be sustituted for something else but everything else remains the same.

Marjorie wrote on September 15th, 2011
  24. I have a great recipe! Only thing is I use cream cheese for part of the sauce. Can anybody think of a more primal ingredient to substitute?

Carolyn wrote on September 15th, 2011
    • I’d be interested in hearing what people have to say about this, too.

Laura wrote on September 15th, 2011
    • Make some yogourt cheese instead?

Tara wrote on September 16th, 2011
  25. I have to think about this one because most of the things I LOVE to cook are from Sarah Fragosa’s cookbook or podcast or the Primal Blueprint cookbook (which is an absolutely awesome book, by the way)! Will think about it, though… there’s so much good stuff out there to cook.

Laura wrote on September 15th, 2011
  26. The jerky is NOT gluten free…isn’t that against the whole primal thing? disappointed :(

    nuttmegs17 wrote on September 15th, 2011
    • How is jerky not gluten free? I make homemade venison jerky and can assure you that there is no gluten in it at all.

      John P wrote on September 15th, 2011
      • MOST store bought (includes online stores) jerky contains jerky…depends on your ingrediants…their website clearly states that at the moment their gluten is not gluten free and that you should be careful when building your jerky if you have other allergies as well. I very rarely ever am able to buy jerky bc many use soy sauce etc when making.

I just wanted to be sure others with celiac/gluten allergies or those simply on a gluten free diet were aware

        nuttmegs17 wrote on September 16th, 2011
        • haha, opps, meant “MOST store bought (includes online stores) jerky contains GLUTEN).

          nuttmegs17 wrote on September 16th, 2011
    • I wish I noticed that before ordering…I guess I assumed that if Mark was plugging it that it was Primal. Hopefully since soy sauce is fermented and the beef is probably only marinated in it the amount of grain (and gluten) in the finished product will be low. It does taste good though, came in the mail today.

  27. This one sounds so fun! I think I’ll do the recipe I came up with last night, Taco salad saute.

David wrote on September 16th, 2011
  30. I have to share! I just made the broccoli quiche from PB Quick and Easy and it tastes SOOO GOOD! I wish I’d made a video, but I’m so happy and full right now that I really don’t care! Plus I’ve got breakfast dealt with for at least another few days!! I can’t describe it…so delicious. My whole body is smiling.

Anne wrote on September 16th, 2011
  31. I’m excited! I just finished making my first ever cooking video! My son did the editing and we’re just waiting for it to render. Should have it up tonight, along with the recipe and an article on my blog. I made a lot of mistakes and felt kind of silly (I’m new to Primal\Paleo and have only lost 10 pounds, which of course, the camera added, dangit!) But what fun it was!
    Kim :)
