Contest: Primal Blueprint Workout Video

The Prize:

As far as workout equipment goes, the sandbag is uber-Primal. No need for weight machines, a well-built sandbag will give you a full body workout (I dare you to work just one muscle group with a sandbag, it’s impossible!). It’s the Grok equivalent of hauling a dead animal carcass, except without the funky smell and lingering gnats. Today’s unbustable lump of heavy is donated by Sandbag Fitness Systems. These bags are used by the Naval Academy, NFL teams, and Division I programs, so they’ll be tough enough for modern Groks. The winner will receive a choice of the Strength package or the Introductory package.

But wait, there’s more! A sandbag will help with strength training, but what about all that low level aerobic activity? For that, you’ll need a pair of Vibram Fivefingers. If you’ve read Mark’s Daily Apple at all in the last two years, you probably know how much we love these things. In fact, several Daily Apple all-stars are featured in the Vibram Fivefingers fan blog. The winner will receive a choice of any of Vibram’s four designs of Fivefingers.

Not enough? How about a full line-up of Primal Nutrition products. That’s right, I’m giving the winner my entire line of Primal products. The book, a Grok T-shirt, a bottle of Vital Omegas, a canister of Responsibly Slim protein powder (your choice of dutch chocolate or vanilla creme), and an entire year’s worth of Damage Control Master Formula (12 canisters!).

To recap, the winner will receive:

That’s a major grab bag of Primal goodness, but it’ll take more than a comment to win this time. For this contest you’ll have to work up a sweat…

The Contest:

After yesterday’s easy contest we thought we’d do an about face and throw you the mother of all contests. This is the big one. I want to tell you all about it now so you have plenty of time to complete the contest task, so here it goes.

Create and upload a Primal workout video to YouTube. Whether you talk and offer instruction, or simply film yourself playing in the park or working out in the gym is up to you. I’ll leave it wide open. The only requirement is that the video relates in some way to the Primal Blueprint Fitness philosophy. The more Primal the better.

Upload your video to YouTube and then email me the link. I’ll publish select videos on Mark’s Daily Apple at the end of the month.

The video needs to be an original video made for the purposes of this contest. Please title the video “Primal Blueprint Fitness:” followed by your own sub-title.

(If you are wondering about how long the video should be click here.)

This is a video I filmed a while back of my beach sprint routine.

From the United States to the United Kingdom and from New Zealand to New Delhi everyone is eligible.

The Contest End Time:

August 27, midnight. You have over 3 weeks to submit your YouTube link, so get out there and film a Primal video!

How the Winner Will Be Determined:

  • If only one person makes a submission that person wins by default.
  • If only a few people make submissions they will each be included in a poll where readers will pick the winner.
  • If we receive numerous entries I will choose my top picks, include them in a poll and let readers choose the winner.
  • I also reserve the right to make an executive decision at any time or use the random drawing method to choose a winner.

You want comments? We got comments:

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

  7. I’m going to walk and swim the 400 miles from Santa Barbara to San Francisco. Hope I can find an underwater camera…Maybe I’ll just stick to a park workout.

  8. This one’s gonna be fun… Is there any guidelines on how long it should be?

    Chunster495 wrote on August 4th, 2009
    • No specific length requirements, but something in the 1-5 minute range is probably best. Shorter than 1 minute and there probably wouldn’t be much meat to it. Longer than 5 minutes and it might feel like it’s dragging on. But it really depends on the content. I imagine there could be a really effective 45 second video and a really comprehensive 10 minute video. I hope that helps.

I look forward to seeing your submission, Chunster485.

      Grok on!

  15. A sandbag for a workout? Makes a lot of sense having built a patio and hoisted a lot of those. But, $135 for a sandbag??? Seriously? Why couldn’t I just go down to HD and buy a bag of sand for about $4? Or less?

  18. mark, Super stoked. My wife (MoniqueM) and I have been building a coaching business to help people get primal. We’ve been organizing local workouts using many natural outdoor movements in the concrete jungle and local parks. This video contest is a great way to get a video together for us. Looking forward to seeing these from everybody!

  28. I dont have a video camera or the technical know how to put something on Youtube but I do have an Idea that I will share for a primal work out that someone may want to pick up. How about a primative dance to some drum music. I can see jumping, all kind of hand and arm motions, torso twists, bending, summersaults etc. Hope somebody picks up on this . Think it would be cool.
    GROK Celebrating a successful hunt.

    Good luck.

  29. Okay, I’m seriously overweight, but I’ve lost 33 pounds since April when I started going primal. So I’m willing. And Barney? You just gave me a brilliant idea. Good thing my daughter loves creating youtube vids.
