The popular story of how low-carb diets work goes something like this: Reducing your carbohydrate...
Let me introduce myself. My name is Mark Sisson. I’m 63 years young. I live and work in Malibu, California. In a past life I was a professional marathoner and triathlete. Now my life goal is to help 100 million people get healthy. I started this blog in 2006 to empower people to take full responsibility for their own health and enjoyment of life by investigating, discussing, and critically rethinking everything we’ve assumed to be true about health and wellness...Tell Me More
Yes, I dare you to find another website that holds a contest to win vegetables. But these aren’t just any veggies. They are fiddlehead greens, the Rolls Royce of the vegetable world. Fiddleheads are only available for a small window in April and May, and even as such, you’d have to beat the other foodies and sous chefs to the market to snatch them up before they disappear. So I found the next best thing. Today’s winner will receive an entire case of frozen fiddlehead greens courtesy of Norcliff Farms. Norcliff is the largest fiddlehead green grower in the world; when it comes to these greens, you can bet they aren’t fiddling about (pun absolutely intended, absolutely). For a little more info on these curled beauties, read my post, “On the Trail of the Elusive Fiddlehead.” And here’s a recipe for fiddleheads with bacon, the Rolls Royce of the pork world.
Witstick. Got 3 inches of floor space? Want an intense, full-body workout in minimal time? Pick up a Witstick. If you’re trying to lift heavy things, this giant stick of heft cuts the mustard. At just 2.5 or 3 inch diameter and 2 feet long it is deceivingly heavy. I was sent one of these awhile back and it’s really nifty. Its rubber covering makes it easy to grip and it’s the right size and shape for a wide variety of movements. I like to hoist it on my shoulder and just go for a walk. Eventually, you’ll be swinging it, tossing it, snatching it, and lunging with it in a choreography limited only by your own creativity. These things are handmade by John Byrne and John Muse, long time readers of MDA. There are several weight varieties, from 22 to 40 lbs. The winner of today’s contest will receive a Witstick of his or her choosing.

Earlier in the month I asked readers to send in pictures of themselves surrounded by a week’s worth of groceries. Over 40 families sent me pics. This is really one of my favorite contests. Getting to see a slice of the Primal community, to see how people shop and eat, to put real faces on the world of readers out there who eat Primal on a regular basis. Thanks to everyone who participated, and here’s to another year of splendid groceries.
Congratulations to Sally & Dan who were randomly selected to win this contest. Enjoy the Alaskan Salmon!
There are perks to being a forum member. Earlier this month I held a secret contest, published only in the forum and only public for a short period of time. Those that acted quickly were sent a free temporary Grok Tattoo. I asked for pics and MDA forum members came through big time with this amazing collection of photos. Many thanks to everyone that participated and sent in a snapshot. It’s a pleasure being able to put faces (and feet and biceps and shoulders…) to forum names. Stay Primal, everyone, and Grok on!
Congratulations to Dragonmamma, who won the Grok Spear from Cold Steel. Way to tat the back!
It’s time for you to decide another winner! At the start of this 30-Day Challenge I put out a call for Primal Blueprint Recipe Videos. MDA readers got right to work. As a result, YouTube has never seen better looking food.
As you might imagine, my crew and I had a tough time narrowing the field. We lost nights of sleep, shed many tears and cursed our duty of having to eliminate so many great videos from the running. And in the end we held a blind vote. To everyone that didn’t make the cut, many thanks from myself and (yes, I’ll take the liberty) the MDA community for your contributions.
Before the vote, a recap of what’s at stake:
Beef Jerky – Chef’s Choice starter pack of grass fed beef jerky, courtesy of Slant Shack Jerky.
The Sous Vide Supreme, the Vacuum Sealer, the Alaskan Salmon, the Grass Fed Jerky, and a bag of coconut. Who receives this Primal prize package is up to you. Watch the videos below and then make your vote count.
