Dietary advice and nutrition trends get the brunt of our attention here at MDA, but an equally crucial component to the Primal Blueprint is the development of functional strength and fitness through Primal exercises. Lifting heavy weights, running intense sprints, and incorporating constant, steady movement into your day mimic the activities of early man and represent the most efficient path to fitness. The free weights at the gym are great, but you don’t always have time to get there. Short of absconding into the wilderness for a boulder-lifting, tree climbing, beast hunting sabbatical, investing in a few kettlebells will give you the means to emulate some of the more savage strength building movements our ancestors employed, without having to drive to a gym.
It’s that time of year. Cool evenings, vibrant leaves, autumn festivals and harvests. For many a cook, it’s a favorite time of year. One of the greatest fall delicacies, of course, is the pumpkin. But if you’ve found yourself estranged from this beloved gourd because you think it’s only the stuff of pie and puddings, be heartened at the prospect of a happy reunion this season. Sure, pumpkin makes for a great dessert (some even Primal friendly), but we’re out to prove you can use it in every course!
As we make our first foray into fall cuisine, we wanted to serve up the top 10 Primal-approved fall vegetables.
Read on to discover our picks for this autumn.
Dear Mark,
Every fall I stock my freezer with nuts and seeds. Obviously I want to buy fresh, not last season’s warehouse leftovers. I am wondering when to expect a fresh supply of popular nuts and seeds like walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and pine nuts. I know that most pine nuts sold in the US are sourced from China.
Thanks for the great question. Nothing puts the “gatherer” in hunter gatherer like nuts and seeds. Obviously, we include them in many of our MDA recipes, and I’m a big fan myself.
